I had written Marshall last week and one of my questions was about the silver I bought in 1998 from an outifit then recommended on this list that I no longer see recommended here so I wondered if it was found that their silver was not really ok?? It was from Hauser and Miller. I am mercury toxic

Hauser and Miller are very reputable. I feel sure that if you got .999 or better you should be ok. If you wrote me directly and I did not resond, I apologize. Some weekends I receive over 10,000 spams, and with no more than 3 or 4 real messages hidden in them, I occasionally delete something as

That would be silver sulfide. It is insoluble. I don't think it would be a problem to use as is, but it can be easily removed either abrasively, or by putting in an aluminum pan (or in a bowl with aluminum foil on the bottom) with hot water and baking soda added. The tarnish will disappear withi
