I believe the colloidal portion is expected to precipitate out when
frozen,
leaving only ionic silver in the solution.

The yellow is caused by the colloidal component. When you freeze it,
the colloidal component precipitates out, leaving only the ionic
component which is clear. Of course what you end up with is really no
longer CS, but ionic silver solution without the CS conponent.
