The IM system lets you set your state, and alerts others using their IM
client to know your state. What it does not do is update other handsets. It
the new media server/voicemail engine has a scripting function, but again
then customer scripts would have to be written and implemented to: 1.

I did not really mean that the phone had to be aware of the states/or
display them.
It is not a requirement that you can set the state via the phone using
protocol either.
