I use the Sync settings ("Check for file changes", and "Reload
automatically"). This used to work perfectly but now (since I upgraded to
Mojave?), Skim stops responding to file changes after a while.
I have not yet been able to identify what conditions cause Skim to cease
responding to file change
The developers have said they will be releasing a new version with this
fixed, but for now we can uninstall, and reinstall the previous version:

To add one more data point in case it's helpful, I also upgraded,
discovered this behavior, and went back to 1.4.36.
My use case is working in LaTeX source in one window and monitoring the
generated PDF in another.

I recently changed my development environment in the course of switching to
a more recent macbook pro. I am finding that the auto-reload feature is
responding more slowly in my new environment. Things that have changed are
my hardware, my OS (now 10.13.6), and my Skim version (now 1.4.36 (110)).
