Hi people,
Regarding the faulty CD #3 from the "Operating in Linux" Handbook, I've
just spoken to the lovely Jennifer at Next Media and the CDs *are* being
shipped already (mine was sent yesterday). They are being shipped in the
order in which people contacted her.
Apparently they are about

Yes I would agree.
But, getting all hot & bothered about it now
isn't going to change the facts. It will take time to sort out, and then
post out heaps of CD's. I'm not sticking up for them, it's a deplorable
situation.
I'm just trying to be realistic about the
solution.

No question - but they stuffed up and are trying to make good. There's a
written work-around, so they technically could just supply that and not the
CD - that's just a gesture of good faith.

But the point is, they should have at least took one set of CDs off the production line and tested it BEFORE selling the product. Would you agree with that? They really do have a serious quality management problem.

You have to ask yourself how long it takes to produce and TEST the CDs,
then get a list of people together and mail them all out... Fair Trading
won't take any action, and anything they Do do is not binding anyway...
Just wait. I've just telephoned them and I'll post their reply shortly.

I heard from Lisa last week, the disks were being TESTED, then cut and
posted out... I'll see if she has an upodate.

I had sent an email requesting a replacement CD last Monday (16/09) and its 26/09 today. I haven't got the CD yet; not even a reply from the company. I would be more than happy to be a part of the collective approach to speed things up a bit. I am sick and tired of their work practises.

Hi
Has anyone received a replacement disk yet for the faulty disk that was sold
with the Next Linux handbook? Has anyone even received a reply? If we don't
hear anything soon, would anyone be interested in making a collective
approach to Consumer Affairs to speed up the process a bit?

Just received a second hand Portfolio and am spending lots of time trying to get it to
talk to my Debian Linux PC. So far no success. The options are:
Serial Port - this should work if only I knew how!
I've been trying stty 1200 -parenb -parodd cs8 /dev/ttyS1
then cp message /dev/

Hi All,
Per the gentleman's recent question about ALSA support for the

definitive answer, and wrote the company.
The bad news is that they do not plan to support Linux, so
Linux users should avoid this company/product.

I've never seen this before, and now pine won't delete emails. Composition
is ok.
I get the impression that some other process has the mailbox files,
although I'm not sure, but lsof doesn't find anything obvious.
