I use Compaq G1 DL380's off ebay ($80), add SATA controller + disk + DDS4 tape and off you go. $80 will probably get you 2 way 1Ghz + 1G mem + 2 x 18G SCSI disk (just for OS). The G1's have lots of space for extra SATA disks, etc. get something as cheap as possible if you can grab someth

get something as cheap as possible if you can grab something around the 2ghz mark with around 512 meg of ram. if you want to run a gui on the machine, maybe a little more ram. disk space is up to you. you can just toss an inexpensive SATA controller into the machine then drop in large disks. my
