The mac archiving utility includes the resource forks of all the files in a
_MACOSX folder so that extended finder attributes are preserved, it does throw
PCs off somewhat

I have a similar "problem". I need to print 4 small A6 scanned copies of
result cards onto an A4 sheet for ease of printing.
Though my work does not have to be high quality (as even the original
details are quite often messy), the principal can still apply.
