Glad to read some positive response regarding F3B. The truth is if you want
a real flying contest, and a true thermal contest (yes distance and speed
are very much thermal tasks too), then try F3B.
F3B does require more manpower and effort, but is probably not as bad as you
might think. Most comp
Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to start with the suggestion about
using a damp rag and sealing iron (Tracey Brown) and work from there. If
the steaming & heating remedies don't yield satisfactory results, I'll try
the lightweight spackle approach. I even had an offer to cut some new cores

Jack,
A club with a turnout of 10 people can run an F3b contest. A "national
caliber one"...No way! But a contest, sure! There would need to be
reasonable levels of expectation, and EVERYONE will have to work. Form 5

Forgive me for the lack of knowledge I have on this subject
But what about using somewhat oversized stabilizers in a cruciform setup,
and make the stabs all flying, and run them as elevons? Make the aileron be
more mixed in so that you get more travel out of aileron. Then, use a
rudder too a
All the comments are on target but one has to stay on the "club contest"
focus. A small club or at least a small club contest turnout (less than 12)
makes F3B kind of out of the question. Our club has several levels of pilots
so maybe the right thing to do is have separate tasks for each level in
OK, here is my $2.00 worth on long duration times. I am a CD and usually
run at least one contest each year, but I don't claim to be savvy. I do
not agree with handicapping performance in any way.
No short winch lines, no rules against skegs and no short rounds that
everyone can reach. I don't c
But that doesn't stop me from packing my planes for some Texas soaring this week.
Got "My Compulsion" and my Kummerow Searcher in the Snow Board Sports tube, a bungee, charger and radio too. Tape, sizzors even got the stabs and joiners! Just might have some fun this next couple of weeks.

I don't know. Maybe we should shoot Gordy just to be safe. ;-)

FYI, Splitrock.net = prodigy.com. That'll narrow it down quite a bit. Who
