Those little bumps are caused by cutter knife. They are ripped from the other side. The veneer is cut from log while rotating. It's much easier to sand off those bumps (which may adds up to maybe 1% of surface) than try to sand smooth the other side with dings. Thus bumps side outside. --- Ben Diss
