Jeff,
Thanks for the good ideas.
1. This a stock motor. No way to adjust timing. Good idea though;
reminds me of my slot car days.
2. New 27-size deep cycle marine battery, charged on a 10 amp charger
all night. However, I was already planning to charge it for a full 24+
hours, just to mak

Bary,
Thanks for the input. I'm still trying to get my winch set up
properly. I put the needle bearing in, but something else must have
gotten misaligned, as it was actually worse. I reset all the brushes,
and will try again this weekend. It spins up fairly well with no load

I'm hoping that Real Balls or some other ball/roller bearing end caps will
become available. In the meantime, a Torrington B-1010 needle bearing will
very nicely replace the front bushing. (Thanks for the tip to Tim
McCann.) I should have this setup flying by next weekend, with any
luck.
I'd recommend staying with the 3110, you may at some point have a
heavier, stronger plane you'd like to launch. Simple tap, tap, tap,
or the foot switch will launch the lightest of sailplanes.
I have Real Balls on my 3110 and glad I made the investment. Since
they are hard to get on occas
More info. Injoy does, indeed, have a needle bearing 6V 3110 available:
new, not reconditioned. Ought to be pretty good, except that I'm leery
of a 6V motor when launching smaller planes. One mistake, and you could
convert someone's Gentle Lady back to a kit. I'll go that route, if

Thanks, All. I knew about Injoy, but the last time I looked, their
motor only had oilite bearings. I see that they now have a needle
bearing version. I've asked them for some more info. If it's useful,
I'll post what I get.
I also knew about Tim McCann's winch. It looks gorgeous, much pret

Tom is a great supporter of the NATS. He has offered a couple of "Brand

motors were never made this nice in 1950. Quality and tolerances

The dog racing training industry uses long shaft starter motors to pull
fake rabbits along. Some of the suppliers modify the Ford long shaft for
ball bearings with a cheaper and not as substantial modification as the

I need to upgrade my winch for my new Aegea, which means Real Balls.
Winch Doctor apparently won't have them any time soon. Does anyone have
a set (or know of an equivalent)?
