Aloha Doug and thanks for the feedback on my question. I am willing to try
the base loaded whip antenna that JR makes and go from there. I'll see how
it goes with my JW when I got the chance and see what my findings are (crash
or not grin). I guess it would be too much for manufacturers to make
Horizon, nor any other OEM, would recommend an antenna that is stated to
operate (properly) at 72MHz. It's more a case of the OEM's sticking to the
facts than speculating or handing out advice that is contrary. This (rightly)
avoids being held responsible in the event the advice does not have

I have used the JR base loaded antenna
with my JR XP9303 on 72 and 53/50 MHz frequencies without any problems.
