Dick started in model gliders and airplanes before he learned to fly
gliders. For a little step back in history, he won the 1937 California
State Hand-Launched Model Glider Championship. The attachment is a
picture of Dick and his mother from that time period. T

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the group. Any chance Dick
dabbled in RC albeit briefly? I encountered a test pilot by the name of
"Dick Johnson" at the Thunderbird RC field in Fort Worth in the 70's.
