When is a tax not a tax. When it is a donation, of course, maybe pushed with a
small amount of gentle persuasion.
To me this would not be a tax but a priviledge to support our F3J soaring team.

Just for grins - here is the FAI teams that the AMA supports and the number
of people allowed for each team. They also support the F3J Junior team at
the same level, I am not sure about the junior teams in the other events.

It sucks that AMA does not allow more monies for ALL TEAM USA's to compete
abroad representing our country. As Junior team manager for the 2000 effort in
Greece there was NO AMA SUPPORT for the Juniors at that time and we were
fortunate to raise enough $$ to cover all costs for the junior team a
