Certainly miss Softimage, but Maya is fine once you get over the bumps.
Next thing to tackle is Houdini, although MASH has impressed me a lot
recently.

If using Arnold hit "Export Vertex Colors" under the Arnold property on the

Sorry for the Maya question on a Softy board but I wondered if people would
mind sharing their character workflow.
Working in advertising I'm having to make quick changes at all stages of
the pipeline and in Soft things were nice and nimble. In Maya I'm using
some scripts but things are very linea

This inquiry is more whimsical probably at this stage but I was wondering
if it was still possible to transfer a Softimage license to someone /
somewhere else?
There are just a couple of tools I'd love to use on a project and my
request for Houdini isn't being heard...
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I have had much more success using real sphere
geo and instancing the shape rather than the default sphere shape.

Hey guys,
I've jumped back into Soft for an ICE project and am having trouble with
rigid bodies. Its a pretty simple simulation, essentially balls whizzing
all over the place and then coming to a complete standstill on the floor. I
am able to get them very still but a few of them get this crazy sp

My Maya misery continues..
We can't seem to be able to submit jobs without bringing the server to its
knees. Anything with simulation or large scenes just jams everything up. I
can only really submit to 3 machines.
We're using Royal Render..
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Any ideas on animating lights to then be distributed on ICE particles?
I can get the lights instanced using "instance shape" but then animating
them?
Or maybe some way to animate objects that I can then constrain lights to?
Cheers

I'm getting more and more assets where the polygons are "disconnected".
Sometimes the whole model is this way. Anyone know of a graceful solution
to reconnect the components? It doesn't have to be a fix in Soft.. but I
figured it would be nice if there was an ICE node out there. Or maybe there
is s
It's also possible to write a post render script in nuke that would compile
them into one file.

I would have expected these from someone who genuinely wanted to ease my

This webinar is actually more relevant to people currently using 3D Max.
How many times have they talked about Maya over 3D Max? Their road map
seems very clear from now on.

I don't actually see anything to aid the transition. How about some
courses? Videos? The approach (so far) has been to "just use something
else". For a company that has just screwed a portion of its users, I would
have thought they would have bent over backwards to keep their loyalty.

I see that everyone is at different stages at the moment,

I should have been more clear. It appears that the additional iterations
option uses a "Catmull-Clark" (or something similar) method of subdivision.
Can this be changed?

I know this must be really obvious, but is there a way to change the way
Arnold subdivides surfaces for displacement?
All I want to do is put a simple decal displaced logo on a piece of geo
that hasn't been built to be subdivided, such as a default cube.
I've sliced up the geo, but this seems rid
