Mandrake 9.0.
I installed Mandrake fine and then tried to get the modem working

Hi does anyone else have any ideas about my modem.
To re-cap I am using Red Hat 8.0 and cannot get my internet
connection to work.
When I run the modem_run command the modem lights start to flash and
then they both go green which I think is a good sign.
When I run the ifconfig command however is

I am new to linux and have folled the instructions but when I type in
ifconfig ppp0 I receive the following message:
ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
Does anyone have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
