Anyone (in the UK) watch Top Gear last night? In the new format of the program they have a permanent dedicated test track outside the new studio (shed!), and keep a record of the fastest test times achieved by their professional driver in various cars - so far there is a Pagani Zonda, Lamborghini

A Fireblade engine in a Spit?? How about TWO Fireblade engines!!! I went on a track day about 1 1/2 years ago and there was this Lotus 7 replical (a Tiger I think) which had 2 motorbike engines (Kawasaki I think but I'm not sure). They were mounted one in front of the other, with one slightly to

TR4 luggage rack mods for use on roundtail Spitfires

For those of you contemplating using a TR4 rack on a roundtail Spitfire these are the gotchas that I have now discovered in doing this. The TR4 rack will fit, sort of, but will require modifications. The luggage rack I purchased is the reproduction rack the big three carry. I dont really think

Axle stub removal...

2002-10-28 Thread Pettis, Ward (NIDCD)
Andre, Not sure why you want to take the stub axle out. You're probably like me, take every single part out and put it back together (if we can). I tried taking my stub axle out last winter with a big hammer and only succeeded in flattening the nut and the threads. If you want to paint the

ignition switch

I am in need of a ignition switch for a 1979 1500. All of the parts houses have them on backorder. I am almost to the point of installing a different system once I figure out the best method of doing so. I was almost ready to put the spit on the road when the switch came apart because of corrosion.

Jeff , just needs the pin to come "out the hole". Just move it as little as possible, I would have thought. Don't forget to also support the engine with a block and jack under the sump. Should take the strain off the input shaft. You might want to put a couple of long bolts in at the top in plac

Yeah, I did that once too. Couldn't figure anyway to get sufficient leverage on the pin to shift it with everything in place. ISTR that I only had to pull the tranny back a couple of inches to free the pin and as Alan noted, I put a couple of long bolts in place to guide the tranny back easier.

Hello, I got a replacement starter solenoid for my Spit, and the terminals are not exactly the same as the previous one. There is a connection for the wire that bypasses the ignition ballast resistor during cranking (it's the one with a yellow-white wire). On my old solenoid, there was a normal-
