Camshaft removal

I'm in the process of disassembling my 1296 engine and have run into a snag. I can't get the camshaft all the way out because it runs into the gear below the distributor. That gear should just lift out but it doesn't. I've even tried to get the oil pump out from the other end but it is a

Assuming that the jet hasn't ovalled, you may be able to get away with a just a needle replacement. I had the same problem with a low mileage 79 spit I just purchased. I can't figure out how the needle got so bad in 63,000 miles. Luckily the one from my 78 spitfire with 200,000 miles was in be
