The fact that you heard it on a walkman makes the frequency suspect as most
consumer devices are manufactured without much regard to rfi rejection. It
could have even been swamping from a nearby repeater that was

I just checked and the top band contest was not till the 9th of Feb...I looked
at harmonic relationships and the second harmonic going down would be in the AM
broadcast band and the 3rd showed nothing relevant on

Most of that traffic has moved up to satellite and no one runs cw from a fixed
station anymore but KPH on special occasions. And they are down by San Francisco

Yes but we aren't talkng about a spur from a dirty occilator but rather just a
frequency multiple blowing out the receiver due to poor design and rfi
shielding...sheer brute force of the signal and its multiple..

That portion of the band is digital modes. You may be hearing one of the JT
modes or Olivia digital modes
