I'm confused by your response. The pipe is only subject to the air
around it in the office building. No moisture concern. Existing 1" x
12" long galanized drops to acoustical tile ceiling, lets say.

What you describe is done quite often, this bi-metalic connection, in
hot-dipped galvanization or electroplate zinc deposition, as discussed in a
thread about a week ago, and as you surely know. The zinc will sacrifice
to the steel at the steel / steel-zinc interface. But, that is what the

I feel like I'm in the twillight zone here, but I have an AHJ stating
that I cannot connect sch 40 black steel to sch 40 galvanized pipe. He
believes there is corrosion concern. The system is an existing wet

I believe that the root of the confusion stems from semantics. NFPA 101 is
referred to as a code, where NFPA 13, 13R, etc., is referred to as a
standard. Many times, I have heard those of us in the business use the term
'code' interchangeably with the term 'standard'. This is technically

A version of that could work - a Sidewinder or SBB with a swivel fitting
would allow the rod down hang straight down and just off the corner of
the stem base, so you could do that each side and then clamp either
above or below the pipe. Assuming the clamp fits in between the spring
nuts. I don't
Regarding the use of a piece of unistrut - previously I was thinking of a
rod from the unistrut down to the pipe hanger. What if you just put the
unistrut under the pipe with unistrut nuts and rods on each side up to the
side-of-waffle support, whatever that is. That could put the pipe tight to

I was on planes yesterday, so dropped off this thread. I haven't met an SEOR
that will let you tap the bottom of the stem, and if it's existing it's more
likely to spawl than hold.
Richard - you keep coming back to centering the pipe under the stem, but how
can you do that without bending the

Maybe its just really early, but wouldn't an HDI-P into the bottom of the stem
work for BL sized piping?
Obviously I'm not living in a seismic zoneyet.
