Looks like at least one person made a plugin:

While that code is outdated and won't work with recent LMS, the
necessary building blocks definitely are there if somebody wanted to
play around with it.

Thanks all. Overwrote max2play with piCore running LMS and things are
back to normal (still need to finish tweaking options and plugins). I do
like that piCore survives non-graceful shutdowns and appears to have
good provision for backing up LMS settings.

OK, the issue is that my Squeezpad is pointing to the correct file, but
my iTunes on my PC refuses to point to that file. I change the settings
on the Advanced changing the folder location, but it doesnt take.
Why, I have no idea- can anybody help
