[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Keep-awake suggestions for LMS on Windows Server?

2016-06-21 Thread itm
I'm running LMS v7.7.5 on Windows Server 2008. I find that whenever I try to access my library for the first time each day the request times out, presumably because the HDD has gone into sleep mode and is taking time to spin up. I was wondering whether anyone had any ideas for keeping the LMS serv

I'm not sure if it will help but have you tried using the 'Prevent System Standby' plug-in ? I don't think it will resolve the problem if it's hard disk spin-up though. Is there anything shown in the LMS log file? Bridged Silent Server -> Transporter -> Lyngdorf TDAI 2200 Amp with Room Perfect

I've also noticed that, after the first search, subsequent searches are really quick (less than 5 seconds). Is is possible to script a search command which can be sent to LMS on a regular basis to keep it "fresh"? (does it use a cache to speed these things up?) --

In addition to what has been said: check out the USB drive's manufacturer web site for some control/utilities software that might allow to set the sleep mode. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?us

I have a large collection (90k tracks, 6k albums). Make sure you go to Settings/Advanced/Performance and set the database memory option to "maximum" (if you haven't done so already). This will allow LMS to use lots of memory for caching. -- Michael __

Thanks for all the feedback - some really useful stuff. I've changed the cache size setting as recommended. I've also spent a couple of hours investigating the Squeezebox CLI, and have worked out how to run a telnet/VBS job on a regular schedule to do an LMS search. I've had it running every 15 mi

So far so good. Today's "first search of the day" returned results in less than 10 seconds, with no timeouts. Whether the improvement was due to the scripted searches running at regular intervals, or the change to the cache size setting, isn't clear. Many thanks for all your input - I now have a

I did upgrade to 7.9, and have now disabled the scheduled search script. Searches are still pretty quick, so the improvement must have been down to either the cache size setting or the old release (or a combination of the two of course). Was there anything specific in 7.9 that might have improved

Was there anything specific in 7.9 that might have improved search response times from a standing start? A lot has changed wrt. searches in 7.9. First of all it's now using a fulltext search index. I'm not sure whether this helps with performance or not. But there is improved caching, some opt
