the old version of perl... This is

Brilliant! It works, Ive got my music back, many thanks to @BartS.
Installed Docker and then ran LMSCommunity image (version 8.2) within it
and now everything works again (I use piCorePlayer on a pi4 and control
it from iPeng on my iphone). I love it when solutions work :)

I assume the update is not addressing the issue with Perl.
As your 920+ supports Docker: I think your best bet is to move to the
LMScommunity image. I did this yesterday on my 1511+ and it's working
great.
I just followed the tutorial that is on the forum, only changing the
HTTP_PORT variable
A new version of LMS (8.1.1.1-16) was offered on my ds920+ today.
Ive installed this but am disappointed to report that it still will not
start on a server running the latest Synology software

Same here. After 16 years of enjoying Squeezeserver and Logitech Media

last 8.1.1. spk for armadaxp. I can only download a
LogitechMediaServer-armadaxp-7.7.6-116 from an archive from Synology as
described by TinTinTin here:

This automatic perl update of Synology killed my LMS installation as
well...
A good moment to shift to a docker container which was installed quickly
on the DS918+. All great features back again, including Spotty!
I am often afraid that this great platform dies, without any good
alternative
I also would like to be able to install LMS V8.x.x on my synology, and
docker is not an option as it can't install on my synology version.
The latest pinkdotnl synology package (8.0.0) works very well, but there
is no new package for latest 8.x.x version :(
I tried to create my own synology

I tried converting over to the docker version and it's up and running
but it doesn't see any of my media.
My stand lone had 2 folders and I have read this one can only have one.
Ok but can it have sub directories under my 1 folder?

Thanks for two good solutions.
I would rather not permanently back level Perl, so after a little trail
and error, I was able to get LMS to work under Docker.

Is a work around to get LMS to work with the Perl update?
Seems I know what went wrong now. The Perl package was updated to
5.28.3-0007. According to Synology's package description, LMS will fail
to start after the update.:(

The PHP error msg is found in /var/log/packages/SqueezeCenter.log. It
prompts every time when I start LMS.

With DS918+ why wouldn't you run LMS in docker?
3x Squeezebox Touch, 4x Squeezebox Radio, Squeezelite (RPi 3B with
HiFiBerry DAC+Pro on OSMC), Material Skin Apk, Squeeze Commander,
Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 with Material Skin (Docker in
DS218+)
I was in the same situation and went the Raspberry Pi/piCoreplayer
route. Very happy with this set-up (and grateful to the support on these
forums). Easy enough to link to music stored on the Synology NAS

in DSM the packages Web Station and WebDAV are using this extension,

However, I got the following error at LMS start-up:
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
I don't think the package uses PHP at all. This might be a red herring.
Or there's something bigger wrong with your system, which makes LMS fail
as well as PHP.

extension = bcmath.so
extension = bz2.so

Best support you get here for the lmscommunity/logitechmediaserver. It's
the "official" image. There are threads about it and Synology specifically.
