It's 100% possible though to run the applications on a TV without having
DNLA enabled on the server -- that of course depends on the TV's
software.

Hi folks
Android phones work fine -- you need two pieces of software
1) Squeezeplayer (small miniscule one off charge -- well worth it)
http://squeezeplayer.de/
2) Squeezer (free) you need this to control the player.

I'd think only if LMS running DLNA/UPnP plugin. I don't know of any TV
that supports native Slimproto. Which do you have in mind?

Hi there
some smart TV's recognize LMS and its music libraries -- TV controller
can find / scroll music too. You can then route output through optical
etc to external speakers / devices.
Flac support too.

Chromecast can never really be gapless as it uses HTML5 webaudio which
can only play one HTTP stream at a time and cannot overlap. Currently
the only way to be gapless is for source to generate a continuous
stream.

I think the problem is more certifications. Ok, for WMA and AAC you
still have to pay some license fees, too, but at least the ones for MP3
are running out this year...
But CE, FCC, WiFi,... that's expensive stuff and it means you either end
up with expensive units or you need large volumes.
