Hi there friends,
I need your kind advice to help me solve my problem with firewalls.

Hameed,
If don't know about squid, I will refer you too visit www.squid-cache.org.
Squid is http based cache and proxy server. Squid have http based ftp
support but did not support native ftp. For this you will have to redirect
yoru traffic via firewall to direct internet instead using squid.

The solution works perfectly for computers connected to the internet
directly.

not transparently.
Then it will log all requests as it does with http.

Hi, David...
I may be totally wrong but have you checked the advanced options of IE?
'FTP' and 'IE' rings a bell and from memory there is a tickbox where you
can select a 'folder view' which also makes IE ignore the proxy
settings.

In free sotware I know of the following FTP proxies
- frox, which apparently has some integration with Squid for caching.
- SuSe firewall suite, which only includes a FTP proxy even if called
suite.
I haven't tested any of them extensively so I cannot tell their quality.

Works here...
Can you add
debug_options ALL,1 9,9
to squid.conf, and then send me the output in cache.log when trying to
access the failing server?
It might be a problem in the interaction between Squid, your firewall,
and the FTP server. Do your firewall support passive FTP?

Checking...
Mozilla is broken. When you request ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/... it automatically
includes a Authorization: Basic ZnRwOg== header in the request..
ZnRwOg== is base64 encoded data for ftp:.
This instructs Squid that it should log in as the user ftp regardless of
the username in the

Are you using ident for http traffic? Or are you using proxy

Most likely your browser does not know how to connect to your Squid by
the name your Squid thinks it has (visible_hostname, or the host name).
Take a look at the HTML code of a FTP directory listing. It contains
URLs which are supposed to end up in the Squid proxy..
