Truthfully IMHO, I think that the tanks are safe enough for the propane mix. I can only think that the manufacturers are playing safe at this time for their own protection. There are so many people suing each other for some of the silliest things. Most of us don't read the instruction sheets

A little side note on locating Butane, I discovered two more locations for Butane cans in 7+ oz. size. One is a marine supply store the other is REI an outdoor camping / backpacking store. REI also has some cute single burner stoves that might be used for a vertical boiler.
