I work at the US nuclear power plants and get to partake of domestic air travel on a regular basis. I would be prepared for anything if I had an engine with me. You never know what idiot you will draw for security screening. Maybe this is why some people drive for 2 days to get to

I would suggest that the reason the lead bag does not get opened is that they can see what is inside it. That is not a pipsqueak X-ray you are dealing with and the image is computer enhanced. Lead is an attenuator of X-rays, not a total shield. The bag provides enough attenuation that the

Reference the newest airport security put into effect a week or so ago. Since then, has anyone on the list had experience carrying locos on board or packed in checked in baggage? Any comments would be helpful as I doubt that these federal security folks have had the proper training on steam
