Folks,
re draughtsman: my father became a DRAFTSMAN when he finished his
apprenticeship as a fitter and machinists in the late 1930s. Because he was
classified as essential manpower (working in the drawing office on tanks
etc.) he was unable to enlist in the Australian armed forces in WW2.

Thanks for the update! I wish it had come about a week earlier, since I
have just sent the Sourcebook to the printer and in one of the notes I
mentioned the disrepair of the dial - now it appears that the comment will
be out of date. But that's a good kind of problem to have.
