Hello All,
How about following nature and just changing the hours we
conduct our business in, instead of the clocks? Would people be more upset by
the idea of having lunch at 10:00, than having a two hour time shift and
lunching at midday?
best wishes,
Sarah
Hello Frans and list-watchers,
There's an easier route than integrals; but I can't do the no maths solution
yet.
Ramanujan came up with an approximation:
( 3(a + b) - sqrt[ (a + 3b)(3a + b) ] ) pi
for major and minor half axes a and b.
For example, if a = b, this approximation reduces
to people adding a
paragraph to their regular postings saying 'visit my site for details...',
if they are offering something of use and interest to the dialling
community.

Following Tony's observation, can anyone tell me what the difference is
between a nondial and an undial? Having seen both terms used I wondered if
they might have specific applications;-)

Hello John,
I think, in the end, absolutely anything (or things) that cast a shadow(s)
on any surface (plane or not) can be used to describe a sundial!!
However,
the markings get very complex.
Agreed, (not to mention the maths)!!
Thus, to answer your question, the two threads or edges
Hello John et al,
I'm still trying to come to grips with the possibilities that bifilar dials
offer. Is it necessary for the 'lines/wires/planes' that cast the shadow to
be parallel with the dial plate?

Hello Dave
I think I got mine (Autosketch) as a demo/taster,but no restrictions, maybe
from cnet, or vnu, or similar free software site; it's version 5.01. I
expect its still out there somewhere. I will post the URL if I find it.

Hello All,
Glad to see the series being aired in the states.
In response to Claude's feelings: I feel that the narrative was disrupted
in someplaces with the juxtaposition of Harrison and Gould's experiences;
but in some ways I do feel that Rupert Gould is relevant. Without his
interest, what
Hello all,
I wouldn't normally post virus warnings to the list as there are so many
hoaxes.
This warning came from my brother who works in the computer industry, so I
believe it ought to be genuine. Don't have time to check it out. Hope I'm
not time wasting.

Is Singleton's dial an azimuthal dial? Or is it a
horizontal with the e.o.t. 'unwrapped'?
Thanks to Steve Lelivre for putting me straight. I
wasn't paying enough attention to the dalidials discussion earlier,I lost
alot of old mail recently, and can't refer back to those at the
moment.
The dial by John Singleton is not azimuthal
then.
