Confirmed. Once I moved my backup XML file to a:\conf\config.xml (i.e. creating the conf folder and renaming the file to simply config.xml), I could boot the CD (beta4 currently) and it would restore that config as well as use it to store changes done from the web GUI. Thanks for the insight!
