Thanks for that Chris and Bill, you were spot on, and

Anyone know why?

Should I be worried that the WIFIGuest vlan doesn't have an asterisk

could be something wrong with the access point. I'm able to ping hosts

Thanks Espen, you've confirmed what I thought about the WAN. Any
thoughts about multiple LAN subnets and carp?

I think
carpdev would make this all possible. Am I missing something that would
make this all easy without carpdev support?

config pfSense does a reboot (which of course doesn't work in this
scenario).
The boot/loader.4th and boot/support.4th files on the liveCD iso seem to
indicate this is possible, but I don't know how to work it out from them.

Is it getting the
right search prefix? Are these things you expect the openvpn server to
push out? Can you manually do a query with these details?
I don't have much/any experience with pfSense but these are sensible
questions to debug it.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Will. We'll try adjusting the tcp
proxy timeout. I think we found some sort of timeout setting we tried to
set in the config file, but I'm not sure it was the tcp proxy timeout.
And when w

I've done a further test. I also get my connection dropped if I use ssh
and ssh to a public IP address that is port forwarded to a server in the
LAN.
So I'm guessing this issue is something to do with NAT on pfSense,
rather than ejabberd.
Any help will be very appreciated.
