So this does seem to be the same omtc bug(#1083071) that has been reported against FF. Manually adding: user_pref("layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled", false); to prefs.js corrects the problem I was experiencing. My system also has an Intel HD chip alongside the Nvidia one which is using
