ASV has a version for Linux, but it is dependent of the Linux
system. I am using it with Red-Hat, but there are some bugs.
If you switch to MS-windows, there is no problem to use IE with ASV.

You'll want to check out fill patterns in the spec:

The basic idea is to define your fill in a defs/ section using
symbols and markers as needed, then apply your fill pattern to the
path element.
