self-hosting survey over here, since many Sync self-hosters might have

Great idea! What about instead of "sign in as foo@bar", you just tell the
user they are signed in as foo@bar, and display a large "click to enable
sync" button? Any reason we couldn't just do that?

It might be useful if someone with lots of context (not me ;-) could summarize
what's been discussed & collect the questions that have/haven't been answered.
Maybe the summary could form the first draft of a wiki page or FAQ page.
