I am experiencing the same problem on a Win-7 machine, ultimate version and
it began this way. Speech would fail after a short time and I would have to
reboot the machine to bring it back. I wam using WE 9.5.3 and NVDA latest.

if all else fails try uninstalling w e then if you have the installation disk
use the emergency removal tool. this will remove all the registry keys. then
you should be able to do a clean w e installation.
