I think that large rivers are incorrectly rendered by Mapnik if
tagged/digitalized according to

Ok! Further, I just noticed that the areas I considered to be correctly
rendered in fact had still "natural=water" set, which is now apparently
deprecated -- the centre way locked to the coastline or not was maybe
just coincidence. Are there plans to change the Mapnik rendering
accordingly?

The rendering of the riverbanks is because waterway has an Else filter
in place and picks up waterway=riverbank.
So although not explicitly filtered that is why it shows, and that is
what would show if it WAS rendered explicitly, ie an outline with no
fill.

Since some version of Josm, I have a memory problem.
I launch the JVM (sun 1.6.0) with 1Go of memory, but it's not enough.
Older versions were quick enough when clicking on upload. Now it spends many

You should submit this to your OS vendor / Sun. A segfault in the JVM
is by definition a JVM bug (in a pure Java application).
You might want to try to upgrade your JVM.
