[talk-ph] Presenting about Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap at Wikimania 2014
Hi everyone, Over two weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to attend Wikimania 2014 in London. Wikimania is the annual conference for the Wikimedia movement, which includes the Wikipedia project. Coincidentally, the conference occurred on the same weekend as the 10th anniversary of OpenStreetMap. As my way of celebrating the anniversary, I gave a presentation about the collaborations between OpenStreetMap and the Wikimedia projects at the conference. You can read more on my blog: http://vaes9.codedgraphic.com/posts/wikimedia_osm_wikimania_2014 Presentation slides: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia_and_OpenStreetMap_%28Wikimania_2014_presentation%29.pdf ~Eugene ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

In our latest release (5.1) we've included a first iteration for a report component with the intention to make it easier for our users to report map issues in OSM. Unfortunately the release for version 5.1 was pushed hard to be ready before the summer vacations which led to us not having much personnel here monitoring the feedback we got during the summer vacations. I'm very sorry we didn't get on the issues you've discussed in this thread earlier. Our intention with this report component is to try to increase the quality of the navigation data in OSM by making it easier for our users to report issues they see while driving. We've got quite a big chunk of users that aren't that tech savvy so we want to make it easy for these users to contribute to the map quality while using the application normally. These are users that feel that it's too big a step to go to the OSM page and edit the data directly. This was our first iteration and apparently we have quite a lot of issues to address here. All map notes users send go through our server to OSM and a copy is saved in our database so we can track the usage internally. We currently allow anonymous posting but since it seems like too many spam posts gets created we will try to impose limits that encourages users to register at OSM more. Users can sign in to OSM in the application and if they do the notes are posted as their account. We are working towards increasing the quality of the reports and any feedback from the community is very welcome. We switched from commercial map data to OSM quite recently(Feb - March) and since the switch we've been working on improving the OSM functionality in our application. This component is just one part of that. I've tried to read through most of the comments here and have made two small fixes that will be rolled out on our servers later today. Those are to block reports with 0 as speed and that we add a signature stating that the report was sent through us. In the short term we will try to make client changes that enforce some basic spam preventing rules and provides the users with more information about what happens with their reports. We will also look over the imperial/metric situation. As it is now we use the same system as the user does within the application and we did the assumption that users that drives in a country with imperial system also have the client set to imperial. In a lot of cases this doesn't seem to be the case though, so this needs to be addressed. Please feel free to contact me or supp...@appello.com (or here on OSM-talk) with feedback or questions about this component or the application in general. We do not

[OSM-talk] web page element browsing history regression
It's been some time now that the new web page is deployed, and despite the overall improvement, the regression for object browsing (tiny part of the screen is actually useful, map occupies most of the screen but is really not needed or could be much smaller at least, the current presentation style leads to scrolling requirement for any slightly more complex object) is still bothering the users. Also dates and times are not shown any more, instead there is approximated text like almost 6 years ago, 12 months ago etc. The fact that map data is loaded for every browse page also leads to significant traffic overhead, eg on mobile or other slow internet connections. I understand that this is an open source project with volunteer contributions, but that part actually WAS already functional for years. Would it be possible to get the old browsing and history pages back, at least until someone comes up with an improvement? Is there support for such a partial rollback? There's no universal opinion. Is there support for such a partial rollback? Leaving aside if it's a good idea, to do such a rollback would require someone coding it. I really doubt any of the people normally involved in coding on the rails port are interested, and I suspect it's not a trivial revert. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [Talk-is] Tenging stíga og rútun fyrir gangandi og hjólandi
Hæ. Skoðaði highway=footway á wiki síðu OSM og þar er ekki gefið að það skuli túlka sjálfgefið sem bicycle=no heldur gefið frjálst á hvorn veginn það er túlkað af hálfu algrímanna. Ef við tökum bicycle=yes af yrði það líklega mismunandi milli algrímanna hvort þeir beini hjólafólki eftir stígum eða götum. Einhverjar umræður hafa verið í gangi á aðalpóstlista OSM um sjálfgefin gildi á tilteknum svæðum þar sem hægt væri að setja inn sjálfgefnar stillingar í samræmi við lög og reglur sem gilda á hverju svæði, svo ekki þurfi að merkja allt innan svæðisins með einhverju sem gildir alls staðar. Veit samt ekki hvort eða hvenær slíkar sjálfgefnar skilgreiningar yrðu innleiddar. Persónulega hefði ég talið það eðlileg virkni fyrir hjólaumferð í rútunaralgrímum að beina fólki á stíga ef það er styttri og/eða öruggari leið, sérstaklega ef um er að ræða óvant hjólafólk. Fólkið sem telur sig ráða við að hjóla á götum getur auðvitað hunsað tillögu algrímanna um að nota stíga ef aðstæður leyfa, eða fólkið sem semur algrímana geri ráð fyrir þessu og lagi algrímana að þessum veruleika. Ef ég ætlaði að fara stystu leiðina fyrir hjól myndi ég eðlilega vilja fá leiðarlýsingu þar sem ég get notfært mér alla stíga sem ég má hjóla á. Ef bicycle=yes yrði tekið af í Fellahverfinu, rútunaralgrímurinn myndi túlka skortinn sem bicycle=no og ég myndi óska eftir hjólaleið frá Völvufelli 11 og til Drafnarfells 2, þá myndi hann mæla með því að ég myndi hjóla eftir götunni út Völvufellið og síðan hringinn í kringum húsin meðfram Suðurfelli og Norðurfelli áður en ég kemst á Drafnarfell. Með bicycle=yes myndi algrímurinn mæla með því að ég myndi hjóla stuttan stíg norður að Drafnarfelli 2. Með bicycle=yes: http://openrouteservice.org/index.php?start=-21.824661,64.1007793end=-21.8247791,64.1012104pref=Bicyclelang=denoMotorways=falsenoTollways=false Án bicycle=yes: http://openrouteservice.org/index.php?start=-21.824661,64.1007793end=-21.8247791,64.1012104pref=Fastestlang=denoMotorways=falsenoTollways=false Síðan eru auðvitað líklegri tilvik eins og ef einhver biður um hjólaleið milli Seljahverfisins í Reykjavík og yfir í Lindahverfið eða Salahverfið í Kópavogi (ekki endilega milli heimilisfanga sem eru rétt hjá hvort öðru). Fyrri áhyggjurnar í þessari umræðu voru einnig að OpenCycleMap birti of mikið af bláum leiðum sem eiga að vera sérstakar hjólaleiðir. En ef merkja á stíga með bicycle=yes á stígum sem eru ekki meðfram götum mun birtast hellingur af bláum blettum á því korti ef reynt er að halda í rútunina. Ef úrval slíkra stíga er of strangt mun fólk undrast af hverju tilteknir stígar á kortinu urðu ekki fyrir valinu þegar þeir eru augljóslega hentugri en sú leið sem var valin. Þetta er nokkurn veginn það sem fólk er að lenda í þegar stígar eru ekki tengdir almennilega. Tæknilega séð eigum við að merkja stíga sem eru fyrir ótilgreindar tegundir óvélknúinnar umferðar sem highway=path. Gætum íhugað að breyta highway=footway í highway=path nema á þeim stöðum þar sem skilgreint er sérstaklega að stígurinn sé fyrir ákveðna umferð eingöngu (eins og sérstaka hjólastíga). Þá getum við sleppt bicycle=yes tagginu þar sem það er sjálfgefið og liturinn fyrir það er ekki æpandi á OpenCycleMap. Varðandi úrlausn myndi ég ekki mæla með því að stígar meðfram götum yrðu teknir út enda myndi það brjóta nokkuð mikið í bága við ‚don't tag for the renderer‘ regluna (sem á einnig við um rútanir). Það ferli að velja sérstaklega hvaða leiðir eru viðeigandi og merkja þær (þar með talið koma sér saman um almenn viðmið og viðhalda merkingum) getur alveg eins verið jafn fyrirhafnarmikið og setja inn þveranir þar sem á við. Auk þess væri það nokkuð selective tagging að fara að stunda það að velja leiðir með þessum hætti og myndi vera langt frá því að leysa úr rútunarvandanum fyrir gangandi vegfarendur (jafnvel með notkun á sidewalk tagginu). Ef gögnin eru rétt og rútunaralgrímar eru að mæla með einhverju röngu, þá á að leysa vandamálið í algrímunum sjálfum en ekki með því að rengja rétt gögn. Sama gildir ef eitthvað kemur ljótt út á korti. OpenStreetMap verkefnið gengur aðallega út á gögnin en ekki hvernig þau eru túlkuð nema af afar litlu leiti. Mín tillaga undir þessum kringumstæðum er að vinna í að bæta þveranir og taka umræðuna varðandi að breyta highway=footway í highway=path. Það tekur auðvitað einhverja vinnu í upphafi að framkvæma þetta en eitthvað sem mun þurfa að gera að endingu. Með kveðju, Svavar Kjarrval On 21/08/14 10:10, Arni Davidsson wrote: Hæ Já Bristol á Englandi.
Brzy snad tu wiki upravím a pak to můžeme probrat. Brzy snad tu wiki upravím a pak to můžeme probrat.
[OSM-ja] Feature Proposal - RFC - Tagging for complex junctions or traffic signals that are named
Hello everyone. In some countries (Japan, Korea…), people orient themselves in the local area using the names of road junctions or traffic signals rather then the names of streets. I have documented the current tagging practice for simple junctions at the following new wiki pages: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Named_spots_instead_of_street_names http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:junction%3Dyes Furthermore, some more text has been added here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dtraffic_signals#Named_traffic_signals.2Ftraffic_signal_systems_.28Japan.E2.80.A6.29 Feedback and/or corrections are welcome. The current tagging practice works well for simple junctions, but makes problems on complex junctions. Therefore, the proposal http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Tagging_for_complex_junctions_or_traffic_signals_that_are_named has been created. Particularly if you are mapping in one of the concerned countries please participate at the discussion at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Proposed_features/Tagging_for_complex_junctions_or_traffic_signals_that_are_named Lukas Sommer ___ Talk-ja mailing list Talk-ja@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ja
http://www.seicomart.co.jp/storemap/index.php?select_sikuchoson=%E6%9C%AD%E5%B9%8C%E5%B8%82select_prf=%E5%8C%97%E6%B5%B7%E9%81%93case1=case2=case3=case4=case5=case6=case7=PFLG= -- 石川 On Thursday, August 21, 2014 3:57 PM, Satoshi IIDA nyamp...@gmail.com wrote: いいだです。 addr:quarter … □□ (大字の扱い) addr:neighbourhood …
___ Talk-ja mailing list Talk-ja@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ja
Re: [Talk-GB] Bus routes and names
That's a very London-centric view of life. Numbers are not necessarily unique locally once you get out into the sticks. I just wanted to reduce the time it takes to find and update relationin JOSM, given that the much-needed modernisation is a big thing. It is precisely to aid finding them in JOSM that I prefer to have the number first. ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
