https://c.tile.openstreetmap.fr/osmfr/17/65209/45793.png
qui est pourtant visible sur
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/47.57090/-0.88942 et ce sur une
bande Ouest-Est d'environ 10 km autour.

[Talk-gb-london] OpenStreetMap Pub meet-up - Thu 23rd 7pm Parcel Yard

2023-11-17 Thread Harry Wood
On Thursday 23rd November it's a social OpenStreetMap pub meet-up at The Parcel
Yard pub, Kings Cross Station, from 7:00pm. Whether you're a mapper, map user,
or just curious, come join us for map chat and beers!

The Parcel Yard is here on the map: https://osm.org/go/euu4xj5p?m= This is
inside Kings Cross station towards the back. Past the funky curvy roof. Past
the Harry Potter shop. Up some steps. We'll be on the first floor somewhere
(not the 2nd floor restaurant), but it's quite big. We'll try to get a table
but may be standing until the after-work crowd subsides. If you think you may
have trouble recognising anyone, turn up at 7:30pm when the group will be more
assembled, and look out for maps or OpenStreetMap hi-viz vests or polo shirts.

The pub serves food and some/most of us will probably be eating there (The old
Benito's Hat burrito option has sadly gone!)

Mark yourself as "attending" on osmcal if you fancy it:
https://osmcal.org/event/2331/
Not everyone bothers doing so. We expect between 5 and 15 people attending.

See this site for more OSMLondon events:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/London#Upcoming_Events

...and this mastodon feed: https://en.osm.town/@OSMLondon

Unless you have an explicit need for a mailing list, I would suggest to
start a sub forum on community.openstreetmap.org instead. See here

https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/about-the-communities-category/80

for information on how to request a forum there.

Re: [OSM-talk] Automatically remove obvious descriptive names for viewpoints (obvious cases only, not all suspect objects)

2023-11-17 Thread Mateusz Konieczny via talk

To clarify:

- not all people active on MR skip verification or make bad edits,
some are making fine edits

- but there is enough of people doing edits without verification
in case of tasks having single possible edit action (or not doing edit),
to make MR useless for cases where verification is needed
(especially with "press to edit" mode being activated)
As there is high risk of such person appearing and making edits blindly

- MR may be useful for cases where elements needs to be edited
in multiple ways and decision needs to be taken before edit,
though there were also many cases of bad editing here
But it in general filters out people clicking "make edit"
on repeat without any verification

- MR is utterly pointless for cases where local knowledge
would be needed and aerial imagery + already present tags
are not sufficient for verification

- MR has many edits that are actually undiscussed bot edits,
just done manually by humans (still without actual review, some tasks
are not even having fig-leaf request of human needing to review anything),
done in violation of
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct
- some MR tasks are undiscussed imports, breaking
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines

- reporting challenges exists, but reports are not acted on by people
maintaining MR ( even ones where people running bad challenges
voluntarily closed them - still remain open at
https://github.com/maproulette/challenge-reports/issues )

---

Suggesting MR as way to verify objects before edit is pointless.
If actual verification is needed before edits that would be done
always or almost always in the same way, then MR is pointless
for that and should not be suggested as a solution.

If multiple types of edits can be done, depending on a case or
someone has bot edit approval (but is unable to mass edit
via script or JOSM or other tool) then it is a viable MR task.
