Congratulations mate. It works - I tested it under both Mac OS/X
(Leopard 10.5.8), and Linux (Ubuntu 12.04.1). I reckon this will now
be my favorite method to line-up background images!

I assume that you are using OSM Australia website. Normally i have found it to
bet updated every night but once it appeared to miss a night. I thought on the
weekend it was a bit late but then released the lake I had traced in was not
tagged as a lake. O'well easily fixed when back home.

and compasses to error correct the GPS data. They're getting complicated enough
now I don't like to comment on when/where they work well. There's just too many
variables the algorithms are tweaked constantly by software

But I see it operates only for straight lines.
I was hoping it'd average GPS traces downloaded from OSM in JOSM around
corners and curves. That would be a big ask, I know.
