Does anybody have any idea if there's already some kind of script to
automatically create time-lapse movies of osm edits ? Would be nice to make
one for Belgium...

I have made one, you can find the result on my youtube page
youtube/racerskin BUT
- it takes only the date of the last edit of every roadsegment (and that is
basically all you can get out of the dataset)
- it is extremely processor consuming. Building the movies on my youtube
pages lasted up to 12
