Hello friends -
I'll be in Rio from June 17 to Jun 21 (partly for Rio+20 UN conference) -
anybody up for doing walking papers maybe June 17, Saturday afternoon? Open to
suggestions as to where specifically, but there seems to be plenty of work
around :)

Hi Alex! I live in Rio, and I'm willing to do it. Where are you going to
stay here? We could come up with some micromapping for the area. I could
trace the roads before, if necessary.
By the way, June 17 is sunday :P

Ola a todos,
Eu fiz uma primeira tentativa de importar os novos dados do IBGE [1]. Eu
usei principalmente ogr2ogr pra fusionar as camadas e ogr2osm para
converter para o formato OSM. Num primeiro tempo, eu pretendo importar
apenas as estradas, rodovias e trilhas. Depois, os outros POI podem
I'd like to help you too.
What do you think about micromapping Copacabana? It's a really...
intense neighborhood.

I cannot remember where now, but before the first IBGE imports, I believe in

Hi Alex,
Kate Chapman (Humanitarian OSM Team Exec Officer) was just telling me you
would like to organize a mapping party in Rio. I will be there on 19 for
speed geeking presentations in the Demo Alley at the US Center, but
likely be there the day before as required by the organizer for a quick
I think that Barra da Tijuca is not as well mapped as Copacabana, so it
could be a good thing to do the mapping party there. They're 20km apart,
but they're very different in essence - Copacabana is dense, has subway, is
foot-centric etc., while Barra is more car-centric, with many condos,
I'm going to be staying in Copacabana. It looks fairly well mapped [0] ... I
may be missing some pockets.
Ruben [1] has done some great satellite tracing in Barra da Tijuca [2] -
there'd be some decent car work there. But what about mapping some more
marginal areas like Cidade de Deus [3]?
