So the search returns *named* allotments? That would explain why we
could not find all the Manchester allotments on OSM although locations
are published by the council.

I was filming at Open Government Data Camp in Warsaw last week and we
did a workshop on allotments and open data which used OpenStreetMap.
Fortunately we had a developer there who produced a script which
pulled in all the allotments in the UK from OSM.
