I see that a mapping party is planned for Boston this month. This is
awesome, and if you are nearby, you should attend.

There is also a mapping party on that date in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
But why aren't there ten times as many
Agreed. Our mapping parties and meetups in Seattle have been awesome.

And this was meant for talk-us...

From my perspective there are a couple hurdles:

Well.. it's chicken and egg. There wasn't anyone interested in the UK
when I ran the first mapping parties there either.
If you set up a group on meetup.com you'd be surprised how many people
join and start to get interested once you have a group meeting monthly.
We should really be

I've been to a successful mapping party in NYC, which was run by CloudMade.
The meetup.com group still exists, and someone is funding it. I don't know
anyone specific who is still working with it though.
I believe Lancaster, PA is still trying to have monthly meetups as well.

We're overdue to host a mapping party in the DC area. We'll organize one at
a meetup to be held sometime in the next two weeks (likely coinciding with
WhereCampDC, 10-11 June). So look for an event in WashDC before end of
June...
I helped organize and conduct a very successful mapping party at

There is a fee to set up a group on Meetup. Someone had such a group in Tampa,
and held a mapping party that introduced me to OSM. That was the only

Hm
How about we have a coordinated mapping party weekend across the US in
something like September? Aim to get a party in every state?
That gives us a nice goal, a long time to organize plus we could
coordinate for national press if we're clever.
Thoughts?

On 6/2/2011 11:00 AM,
1) Book a time and place.
2) Promote the event.
3) Attend.
4) Have fun.
That's really it. Everything else is just a matter of balancing your
compromises.
Pick a location and time that suits you and suits the audience you
wish to attract. If you want the high-school crowd, don't pick a
venue
I can't wait to set one up once I get to SLC. Anyone know of existing
communities there?
Obvious targets for spreading the word seem:
* The Society for Beer and IT (sic) [1]
* The Geography department at the U.

Hi all,
Has anyone used OSM for emergency routing with squad cars or ambulances?
I've found someone on reddit who is interested in loading their Garmin with
routable data so they can more-quickly get to their destination. Apparently
their jurisdiction doesn't have that information available to
