Hello,
I want to try noteedit and PMX at Linux. I have some experience with PMX
at Windows, but I hoped that it should be possible to run it at my Linux
system.
I am using a OpenSuSE Linux 10.0 RC1 with tetex and musixtex installed.
But there is no preconfigured PMX. I downloaded pmx_2.5.10.orig
Ah, BWV1046 shows the way how it works.
Many thans,

The N option of the A command allows to define the name of part file. This
works for part 1-9. But I found no way to specify this for part 10 and 11:
AN9 "parts\Harp8" - is ok
AN10 "parts\Harp9" - is ignored
ANa "parts\Harp9" - is ignored too.
Scor2prt evaluates a hex number after the %, so I tr
Hello,
for my large 11 instruments / 12 pages score I would asked to add an
abbreviated instrument name at each page. This makes sense with so many
systems.
I think I should find this in the manual. But I read the musixtex and pmx
docs and found no hint. I also downloaded the GMX ISO image and sea

Hello,
I want to improve my score with inline TeX. The result should be look like

But the notes should have indivdual stems, since they are individual voices.
The b-flat stem should have a "up" direction. The size of the flat signes

Many thank to all who help me with my multi voice project. As a conclusion I
must say, the limitation to 12 voices gave a bunch of additional work, but
PMX / MusixTeX gives my a nice score. I am convinced our conductor will like
it.
There are some problems left. I will try to solve it by myself.

Andre,
thanks for this solution. Don't care if you are proude, it works. I have
remove the transpose and put the other octaves insinde. This blows up the
PMX source a bit less.
While juggling around with inline TeX I have further strange results. The
octave runs away. I have "fixed" this with ot
I fear I didn't sent the most complicated example of two voices that must be
coded with inline TeX. I have a problem with beamed notes. I was fighting
two hours but am completely frustrated. The pitches of the PMX notes run
away and I get surprising results. In short words: I didn't understand it.
Cronelius,
many thanks for reply even if it's a bit dampening. I promised to our
orchestra to write the notes in a week and I would like to continue this
since I convinced that the other software systems are not as good as
MusiXTeX/PMX. But now I am in a tight corner.
I looked at the first sheet
Hello
I want to write a piece for ten harps and one rhythm instrument (triangle).
All instruments except one harp has one staff. One harp has two staves. This
gives 12 staves. So I am near to the limit "12 staves".
But in some measures I have chords that should be played with both hands.
These a
Merci beaucoup!
That works fine. This pattern is more general and, most important, I was
able to understand it. Now I also learned the rule of makeatletter.

Olivier,
thanks for reply. Unfortunately this was only an excerpt. There are two
lines with rhythm notation: 2nd voice and 11th voice (lowest line). So when
I add the next line (3rd) it doesn't work anymore.

Hello,
PMX does not support drums. So I use a macro that will change the next note
to have an X instead the normal head. Is there any way to define the
notehead for more than one note (severeral measures)? It's annoying to
repeat the \dr\ macro all the time.

Many thanks for all responses to my question.
Last weekend we performed our first concert including the piece in question.
I was able to reduce the size so we could skip the sheet turn over. But the
paper is still a bit overloaded.
I was not yet able to get it in the format I need. I will have
Andre,
many thanks for your reply. I could remove the lower staff as intended.
Unfortunately it does not solved my problems.
The new free space has left blank. While playing with the A option I could
affect, where I got the white paper. But the intention was to remove an
uninteresting voice. Thi
Hello,
to save space in a three staves partiture I want to exclude one staff for
the first two pages. I read in PMX250.pdf that I can change the number of
instruments but could not figure out, how it should work.
The staff starting with d83 should be hidden until bar 16 inclusively.

except that my glacial progress on editing that manual just passed that
section last week.

Hello,
I want to place a coda at the last part of an bar. In the excerpt below the
coda is above the last b note. When I move it behind the rest, the coda
vanishes. How can I move it near to the end of bar?

Hello PMX-experts,
I have typeset a song that takes 8 pages. This is too much to place it at
the music stand at once. But it doesn't make fun to turn over pages while
playing harp.
I need to compress the layout. The song has three voice. An excerpt could
give good results. But I need to look at t

Andre, thanks for reply.
The uptrio and uptuplet works fine. After inserting all the tuplets I ran
out of the 128 char per input line limit. This causes weird dvi output or
sometimes a freeze of pmxab.
Is it possible, that a later version of pmxab detects long lines and aborts

Hello,
I typeset my first piece with a coda and triplets. Searching the texmusix
mail archive I found, that a coda must be inserted with inline-tex. I added
the \coda\ with trailing backslash but TeX fails with "Dimension too large."
What's wrong?
In the second lines are a lot triplets. I want t
Hi Don,
the "refresh now" button saved not my live, but the evening. Now I can
compile the pmx source as intended. I have also installed all files as
described in musicwininstall.
Now I can even compile the barsant.tex (from barsant.pmx).

Don Simons,
many thanks for the suggestion to use your program. I also found a lot of
samples. After some problems I am now able to typeset a simple piece. But I
want to learn more.
I tried the barsant.pmx sample and was tempted to give up. I am not a tex

Thanks for your suggestions. I am looking at the PMX source and understand
nothing. I will have to read the fine manual and try to understand it. I am
convinced, that it's totally clear for an PMX author, but I will have learn.

Hello,
after a pause of some years I want to start again with musixTeX. I am
working at a version of Schumanns "Kinderszenen" that I want to adapt for
lever harp. I will need some simplifiactions and additional hints for the
harp player. It works in general, but I have some questions.
