The Painted Caves were actually inundated by Lake Amistad in 1968. They were a
popular stopping point for travelers on the old trail from Fort Clark to El
Paso. Not very long but of historic interest.

I believe the cave location shown is incorrect. I think
the caves are on the Pecos river a little e
