While I personally agree with Dr. Tuttle's message regarding the effectiveness
of current WNS decon protocols on reducing the spread rate of Pd and WNS in the
US, I believe that it is somewhat irrelevant to the issue of whether we, as

It is easier to blame the cavers than accept that we are not able to control a
natural process.
The decon mandate makes it look like we are doing something and gives some
folks the warm fuzzies.
Cleaning gear should be a normal process, kinda nice not dealing with the end

Tonight is the second (of six) workshop classes designed to empower a whole
batch of new sketchers. Last week we covered the types and purposes of
cave maps, the in-cave survey process, and types of instruments, survey

Over in southeast Missouri, between Eminence and Round Spring you will find
fun things to do. Check out "Devil's Well" as you can do that by
yourself. Even better, ask around to see if there is some caver that
knows how to actually rappel into it. I think there is a light-bulb at

Folks,
While I think that cleaning gear is a great idea for a lot of reasons, it was
very interesting to listen to Dr. Tuttle’s Keynote presentation on WNS and bats

Pete,
That is a good point, if you're not an NSS Member, joining gives you
credibility as a serious caver when you're contacting cavers in other regions.
In addition, the members manual and the NSS web page at www.caves.org are great
resources for finding cavers in other areas.
