I have noticed that on a lot of satellite imagery the water bodies have been changed to a sorta pastel blue or green as a matter of course. I assumed it was done to preclude stitching a bunch of images taken on different passes (and times) and having impossibly different reflective values due to su

Not to dismiss all these thoughtful considerations - but shadows on the ground which surround these patches (of smooth and reflective water) can only generally indicate "height of solar azimuth" on the ground. Were there high vertical towers in the same frame, one COULD determine both the alignmen

They are definitely ponds--with something in um. The westernmost one has an earthen dam on the west side and is fed by a stream channel which looks dry. There is something very PhotoShoppy about the margins of the 2 unknown inset images. The chaparral comes right up to the edge of one and also has

Robert, Couple of comments to your response. A. I assume that the nets are curved to fit the size of the pond to save material as these are more natural shaped ponds rather than constructed concrete raceways you might see here in the US. B. There may be a steady flow of water from either

I'm going with the aperture reflection story over the aquaculture theory for these reasons: (a) the edges of these potential nets are not square but pretty well conform to the curves of the pond - I'd expect a set of right angles everywhere instead; (b) I believe that aquaculture requires a st

I used Google Earth to tilt the image and looked for any 3-D structure. Couldn't see any. I also panned the cursor over the "pond" on the east side of the road and the elevation never changed. Of course it didn't change when I panned over the nearby buildings, either, so obviously ve
