Hello to all,
I connected the unit to a 11m of H-155 cable(assumed 4.79dB loss "worst
case" at 1.5GHz), thrown the GPS antenna on the balcony horizontally and

This 10 MHz unit has a 5th pin that I can't find any documentation about.
There have been posts in the past that have also indicated its use is
unknown. Looking at the base, the four connections in the corners are known
quantities. (ground, EFC, 10 MHz out and + supply) No. 5 is midway along on
Here is my take on this: Why worry about a few dB of attenuation in the
cable when you have a 100% blockage problem for half the sky?
With GPS receivers, cable attenuation (within reason) is not important.
What matters is if you can see the satellites or not. It is more of a
binary on/off kind o

Hi
For a long term installation, an antenna location that will “see” more sat’s is
a really good idea.

Hi
The CR-24/U is a *very* unusual crystal package. They had a tough time
getting that one to work.

Hi Adrisn:
The BC-611 Walkie-Talkie is a crystal controlled 2-way radio where there are a set of 4 components that need to be
changed whenever a different frequency is needed. This needs to be done in a workshop and not it the field.

To me, these devices look like they may have a quartz crystal at the bottom,
and spring and screw adjuster on the top.

The markings are actually 3720 k/cs, 3760 k/cs and 3780 k/cs. And I think
it's probably for the wireless No 7 shown in http://www.wftw.nl/wsets.html.
But you could be right - they may not be crystals.

Actually, there is a 37 before the last digits, so they are 3720, 3760 and
3780 kHz.

Wow, those are really neat. I have several hundred different style holders in
my collection, but, I have never seen any like those. Thanks for sharing. Now
to find one :). Regards - Mike

Not sure where you got the 80 K cps the seller mentions 80M(eter) and
the items are clearly marked 3720 KCS 3760 KCS and 3780 KCS which would
be in the 80 meter band.

Hi
Welcome to eBay …..
I don’t believe those are crystals at all. If you take a look at the markings
on the parts
they are labeled “80 K cps”. In other words they are 80 KHz not 80M devices.
Looking
at the gap, if there is a crystal in there it’s not obvious that it’s big
enough for 80 KHz.
Hi Adrian (in the UK I think) I think you will find the designation WS.7 is
a UK Military type number. Try and search vintage military radio.
Lovely beasties, I have not seen that configuration and they are probably
quite early in the use of quartz in sets on a manufacturing scale

Might be worth popping over to the GQRP mailing list and asking, there are
a few enthusiasts there but wireless set no. 7 makes it sound like they
were from a military radio.

Is anyone familiar with this style ? I don't think the quartz is visible in
the glass section : I imagine that's just an insulator. I think the quartz
is under a brass disc, with a sping to hold the disc down visible thro
