A faculty member at our college several years ago wrote some software to
turn a computer into a talking calculator for a blind student in his stats
class. I am trying to track it down now. More relevant, though, is that
his work was supported by IBM and they had a huge library(?) of resources

I tend not to schedule exams too close holidays, on either end. However,
for classes that meet
on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I generally schedule exams for Tuesdays so that
students have a
weekend over which to study.
