It looks like social psychology is about to become the primary site of a potentially nasty political struggle, at least in the US. A soon-to-be-published survey shows sizeable minorities of social psychologists willing to admit that a conservative perspective would make them less likely to acce

Not to speak of the scientific struggle: how are we supposed to know what's what if editors and grantors are politically biased? Sheesh I mean, I understand that at root we are all biased. But we know this and should fight against it. m -- Marc Carter, PhD Associate Professor of Psycholo

Okay, I can see why from a scientific perspective one might want to put a mini-cam collar on a cat and allow ot to roam around outside while recording its activities -- perhaps one could file this under ethology -- but does one really want to look in to the dark void that is the mind of a cat? We

I can vouch for the cat philandering. My old cat was quite the "cat about town" and I could frequently find him lounging in the driveway of a house on the next block (with their two big German shepherds, no less!). All the neighbors knew him. I suspected him of dining out at the home of a man se

Yes, what a surprise that cats are predators! They are not the only predators "out there" of course, especially in the wilds of NH (where Mitt Romney shops for "hardware stuff" Yikes!). I lost two cats the past few years, and the thought of seeing, up close on cam, the open jaws of a larger pre

I would be happy if my cat reduced the sneaky pear-theiving squirrel population in my yard, but then I don't let her outdoors. Three chihuahuas don't do it either, although they might deafen a few critters. Going to get myself a slinghshot. Carol On Wed, Aug 8, 2012 at 10:24 AM, MiguelRoig wrot

Hi Without looking at the paper, we need to be cautious about the implication of this. What is it that people think of when asked about a "conservative" position on psychology-related topics? Might they be concerned about conservative biases that could influence conclusions and explanations?

This is my opinion, also. Using SPSS, or any other program, with all our undergraduates is generally not a good idea. The reason that I feel that way is that I have plenty to do to teach them how to understand concepts and context. I'm also usually teaching them how to write in APA style. So, if

Hi It depends I think on how much time you have to impart statistics and research methods to undergraduates. In our honours program, students have a second full year of primarily statistics with some methods on top of a half course in introductory statistics and a half course in methods. The
