No you have to use an EJB server such as JBoss (www.jboss.org), Sybase
EAServer, J2EE Server, Weblogic, Websphere or Silverstream. JBoss is
open source. There's a free 5 user developer license for EAServer and
and J2EE is free as well from java.sun.com.

I have been doing some work on server configuration and so I ran accross
EJBs. In Tomcat 4.0 they are on the Context statement in the server.xml
file. I do not work for Apache so I can not tell you if they existed prior
to 4.0.

As long as this came up, anyone know just what
open-source/free/low-cost EJB/J2EE servers there are out there?
JOnAS is an EJB container that is included with the Enhydra Enterprise app server. It
also integrates with Tomcat for EJB support (instructions included). Their link is

Tomcat is strictly a JSP/Servlet service. If you want EJB support look
into a project called JBoss at jboss.org. It's an EJB1.1 server.
